St. Brigid’s Episcopal Church, Rio Vista
Diocese of Northern California

Mission Committee meeting

Sunday April 5, 2009

Held at the Drury Residence.
Attendance: Warden Owen Drury, Treasurer Chandra Drury, Worship/Hospitality/Altar Guild
Cte. Carol Dugger, Clerk Pat Akers, Members at Large Araminta Blackwelder and Thelma
Martin, who also provided childcare, Deacons Derek Jones and Susan Reeve.

Minutes of the previous meeting, Nov. 2, 2008 were read and approved.

Treasurer’s report was not complete due to illness.  [Note: It was presented April 18.]
Donations are down.  Clothing exchange event was the most significant expense, but also
great success.

W/H/AG Cte. Carol has issued the new schedule.  Drurys have taken Carol’s place during her
surgery.  It would be nice to have another person to help make up another team.  Chandra
suggested that doing Altar Guild and Hospitality together would be easier.

Member at large Araminta will continue sending out the greeting cards.

Eamonn Drury reported on his Jump Rope for the Heart fundraiser.  He raised $121.00,
received a certificate, and got his name in the local newspaper.

Deacons’ reports:
Derek reported on the stimulus package funding coming to RV Ministry Inc.  They have hired
a case manager, to be open 5 days a week.
RVM wants to work with RV High School students not going on to college, to develop
vocational training.  Assist with transport to training in Fairfield.  Increase outreach to Spanish
speakers.
Possibly expand next door into the former gym building.
Susan inquired whether these programs connected with the CARE programs.  The Hispanic
part does.
Solano county grants and other resources available to CARE were described, including
funding constraints.  This will be an outreach opportunity for St. Brigid’s and other churches.
CARE’s annual fundraising Gala is Sept. 12th at Trilogy club house.
Susan alerted members to the May 19th election with its potential ballot cuts to Prop 63,
namely Proposition 1E.
Sat. May 16th will be a church outing to Brannan Island State Park to learn more about the
Delta.  3 Episcopal dioceses meet in the middle of the Delta, where Sacramento County, San
Joaquin County, and Contra Costa County meet, at the tip of Andrus Island.  We could host
evening prayer at St. Brigid’s afterwards.
May 30 ECS jubilee event in Amador County:  moved by Susan, seconded by Carol, passed,
to have St. Brigid’s use outreach funds to purchase tickets.

Other outreach:
Chandra: clothing exchange had a great turnout and 1,500 articles of clothing went home.
CARE and RVM maybe can give out 10 coupons per family for free clothes.  Huge amount of
infant clothing is currently stored in Susan’s garage.  Free parenting class with free clothing
giveaway?  How to reach non-English speakers?  Becky Forbes is a nurse RN who speaks
Spanish.  Derek suggested a WIC speaker.  CARE advertises such opportunities through
Zaida Mungaray’s family groups.
Next clothing exchange tentatively set for August 29th.  Chandra will book the City Youth
Center.

New Business:
Old Masonic building at the corner of California and South 2nd is available.  We discussed
making an offer.
Jenny Lindsay has agreed to be a backup to Grace Bos as Sunday musician.  We will say
farewell to Lee Muller when we move to Sundays.
Closing prayer by Deacon Derek.

Respectfully submitted
Patricia Akers
