| Mission Committee Meeting January 12, 2008 The Mission Committee of St. Brigid’s Episcopal Church convened at 10:00 a.m. at the home of Chandra and Owen Drury. Members present were: Deacon Susan Reeve, Owen and Chandra Drury, and Carol Dugger. Members unable to attend were: Debbie McNamara, Derek Jones and Roz Malone. Treasurer’s Report: Our yearly income for 2007 was: $7,919.05 after deductions for our Outreach dispersals for 2007. We have 3 CD’s at the Bank of Rio Vista: 1 CD is for $2,098.41 which is due in June 2008; 1 CD is for $2,140.27, also due in June 2008; 1 CD is for 2,135.38 and is due in May 2008. The checking account has, as of Dec 31, 2007, $5,256.19. There is a $500 deposit refund due from the City of Rio Vista for rental of the Senior Center which Deacon Susan Reeve and Chandra Drury will pursue. A total of $12,130.25 is in the Treasury as of Dec 31, 2007. There was a 25% decrease in financial contributions to St. Brigid’s compared with 2006. Chandra reported that our Liability Insurance has not yet been paid and the renewal date for this is unclear. The insurance cost is roughly $100 and the policy has probably expired. Susan will follow up on this so the renewal can be paid. Old Business: Membership Committee vacancies were discussed. A motion was made and seconded that Owen Drury be the next Sr. Warden. This motion was carried. The position of Secretary remains to be filled. Thelma Martin is making chair covers that will hold prayer books and hymnals during our services. She would like to participate in the Altar Guild. Carol will talk with her about the Altar Guild after the Parish Meeting on Jan 19th. Weekly services: The Mission Committee supports the idea of increasing worship services to a weekly basis beginning in February. The actual starting date is to be chosen. It is understood that this will have an increased impact on our operating budget, the Worship Committee, Altar Guild, and music program. Carol pointed out that more participants would be needed for the Altar Guild. Currently there are 3 teams and at least one more will be needed to handle the additional work of setting up for services. Volunteers will be sought at the Parish meeting. Susan stated that she has had contact with Bishop Beisner and his Canon-to-the-Ordinary Britt Olson and they recommended The Rev. Donna McNiel who is the chaplain at University of the Pacific in Stockton. Rev. McNiel is willing to come to St. Brigid’s for weekly Eucharist at no charge other than mileage. Rev. McNiel will be presiding at our eucharist and attending our potluck on Jan 19th to meet us. Current mileage cost is calculated at $.50 per mile so that would amount to about $100/month. The fiscal impact of increasing services is as follows: Rrental of The Lighthouse would increase from $50 monthly to $200 monthly. Negotiation of an increase in musician’s fees will be conducted by the Sr. Warden and Treasurer with Lee Muller at the Parish Meeting Jan. 19th. Having a regular priest will cost us about $100 in mileage fees. The final budget will be determined once the musician’s fee is settled. We are hoping to keep the expenses at or under $600.00 for 2008. New Business: The Mission Committee has the following vacancies that need to be filled for 2008: Senior Warden, Treasurer, Worship Committee, and Member at Large. Owen Drury has volunteered to become the Senior Warden, Chandra Drury volunteered to continue as Treasurer, Carol Dugger has volunteered to continue as Worship Committee chairman, and Roz Malone has volunteered to become a Member at Large. Chandra reported that she is able to get copies of our Worship supplement printed at 3 cents per copy. Carol will e-mail the upcoming bulletins to Chandra for printing as needed. The possibility of having a “Sunday” School for our children was discussed briefly. Owen will confer with Donna Harris about developing a plan for eventual “Sunday” School. Currently we have only 2 children that would be interested, but with the advent of weekly services there may be others. We need to be prepared for that eventuality. Susan reported that Barbara McMartin of St. Anne’s, Stockton, would like help with the Coast Guard ministry. There is a small conclave of Coast Guard families living in Rio Vista. Mrs. McMartin distributes used magazines and reading materials to this rather isolated community. Susan felt that the Coast Guard Station could be part of a continuing Outreach project for St. Brigid’s if we wish to become involved in this. Chandra suggested that we might think about having an Easter Egg Hunt for them or possibly a BBQ later on to become acquainted. This would be excellent publicity for St. Brigid’s as it would be reported in the local newspaper. Easter is March 23rd. Chandra pointed out that the Delta Loop is a place where we might be able to draw prospective members. Age-ing to Sage-ing is a course for senior citizens that the Diocese is providing at no cost. It is felt that because St. Brigid’s is in the heart of a senior citizen community that this would be well received by the general public. Suggestions for finding a place to hold this course and the advertising needed were briefly discussed with no conclusion reached at this time. This would seem to be an opportunity for St. Brigid’s to become better known in the community. The members of St. Brigid’s are invited to St. Anne’s Church, Stockton for a Pub Night to celebrate St. Brigid’s Day Feb. 1st and 2nd. Deacon Susan has the details and has information about this fun evening. Having no further items to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 12:15 pm. Respectfully submitted, Carol Dugger Secretary Pro Tempore |
